Sophomore Paul's school couldn't get more gay-friendly: the star quarterback, a drag queen named Infinite Darlene, is also homecoming queen, and the mood of the town is equally welcoming. While sometimes threatening to waft the story off to Neverland, it's a premise that allows Levithan's gay characters to explore the vicissitudes of love on the same terms as the straight kids.
